This year my topics of study are social justice in art history, and more specifically feminism in art history, as well as the salem witch trials and english writing.
Learning Plans and Standards
I will meet the civics and history standards of social studies, studying the past and present using primary and secondary sources through the lens of different perspectives in history. To show my learning for this, I have researched four different influential feminist artists focused on the 1970s-80s in America, around the peak of second-wave feminism. I then made infographics on each woman, detailing their history, what they accomplished, and why it’s still important to know about them, which I have hung up in the art wing. I have also completed a rough draft or notes for my long research paper on the salem witch trials, which will meet both of these standards as well as looking at government and religious perspectives, and misogynistic themes.
In order to meet the research writing standard of english, I wrote a research paper on Judy Chicago and The Dinner Party, exploring the meaning behind the work, as well as the many criticisms it faces, and the role it played in art history. I have my final draft completed linked in the english section, and only need to complete the final draft in a separate document to show my process.
Throughout this process and with the help of my mentor Sayward, I have learned to write better as well as work independently and manage my time. I have learned making schedules and lists for myself helps me to complete things in a more timely manner.
